Leavenworth, WA is straight out of a fairytale. There is no shortage of beauty whether you’re in the town or on one of the many surrounding trails. This insane view above was from the dock of the cabin we stayed at on Lake Wenatchee. This itinerary was for a full three days and two nights with a group of eight ladies.
Time Visited: Third week in May
Distance from Portland, OR: 4.5 hrs./295 mi
Accommodations: Cabin
Day 1:
Three of us arrived in Leavenworth at 10:00 AM. We perused some local shops and Village Art in the Park, which is the longest running open air art installment in WA. We sipped and snacked on a hot pretzel at the Sausage Garten while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. We chose lunch at Luduwig’s because it offered outdoor seating; the schnitzel sandwich was excellent. We planned to prepare most meals at our cabin, so we picked up some groceries at a nearby Safeway and headed towards Lake Wenatchee.
Day 2:
All eight of us hiked Hidden Lake at Lake Wenatchee State Park, which is an easy 1.9 mile out and back hike. A few people stopped at Headwaters Pub and Pizza on the way back to our cabin.
Day 3:
We returned to town for breakfast, a walk, and a few more stops. We enjoyed pastries from The Danish Bakery, A Book for All Seasons book store, and a walk around Waterfront Park before heading home.
I loved being here in the off-season; I can only imagine what the town is like during summer and Oktoberfest. I highly recommend this time of year for fewer crowds, easy driving conditions, and hikes at lower elevations. If you can, stay somewhere on Lake Wenatchee! The town is fun, but the lake views were unforgettable.
